Grandfather Clock
The Mansion’s oldest and most valuable piece of furniture is the 18th century grandfather clock made in Waterford, Ireland by William Maddock in 1770.
The clock was donated to the Mansion in honor of Governor Francis Cherry, Arkansas’ 37th governor (1953-1955). This clock, a gift from Governor Cherry’s family, is older than the United States and still runs and chimes on the hour.
The clock was presented to Governor David Pryor in 1978 by Mrs. Margaret Cherry, widow of Governor Cherry, and their daughter, Charlotte Cherry.
